Is Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) Less Healthy Than Taco Bell?!

KFC

No. It’s not healthier either. It truly can not get any worse than Taco Bell.

Someone told me that the same company that owns Taco Bell owns KFC. This then does not surprise me that KFC is just as bad as Taco Bell. I just looked through all of KFC’s food items via this PDF and did not find anything that I would eat.

I found 10 different menu items at Wendy’s that I would eat. I found nothing at Taco Bell or KFC. This is sad. Very sad. I am not even being strict. Both fast food chains simply do not serve real food. Nothing is real. Everything has something added to it that I have no idea what it is. I want to know what I am eating.

Do you want a graphic as to what is in KFC’s food? Click here to see other “foods” like the two I quote below.

Ok if you already eat a paleo diet then you probably were never going to consume that anyways. So what about the Double Down that is grilled? I would personally pass due to what is in their grilled chicken.

If it was between eating KFC or dieing I honestly might choose to die. Let’s hope I am never in that situation…

What do I recommend?

I recommend you go to Moes Southwest Grill, Chipotle Mexican Grill or Wendys if you are on the road, are shaking because you are so hungry and if you do not have other food on hand. There are plenty of other awesome options but I have yet to dissect any. I will be doing this over the next several weeks and months.

The next 2 fast food chains that I will disect are McDonalds and then Burger King. If there is any fast food restaurant in particular that you want me to disect then please let me know. It’s a lot of fun! McDonalds will take a while as they have countless items on their menu. Most are not safe to eat while some are OK.

KFC and Taco Bell disgust me. They don’t serve food. I encourage you to stay away!

Did you have a chance to look at the PDF? What do you think? Did you find anything that you would eat? Maybe I skipped over a menu item that is OK. Let me know in the comment section. And, if you have a restaurant you want me to dissect then just let me know!

The list of ingredients in the chicken pot pie really take the taco (no pun intended!) That is an excrutiating list. Really disgusting. Glad we stay away and make things from scratch here.

They own a lot of other fast food places too. I thought they were still Pepsico-owned, but they spun them off into another corp to hold all the fast food places (with lifetime guaranteed use of Pepsi products, of course). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yum!_Brands,_Inc.

And I think you got something mixed up in this sentence: “I found 10 different menu items at Wendy’s that I would eat. I found nothing at Taco Bell or Wendys.”

I just heard the lawsuit about Taco bells meat only really being 35% meat. I instantly thought of inconspicuous foods at other fast food chains. I am not at all surprised that even the grilled chicken has terrible ingredients. When you get to the Burger King post, you’ll notice that their grilled chicken is also smothered with various non-foods. Its just safe to assume fast food = fast chemicals. And I don’t want to eat chemicals, even if I can get the large size for $0.20 more.

People would be surprised about Subway too. For so long I thought it was by far the healthiest fast food chain. It turns out its one of the worst. I mean, I can get a garden salad with avocado but is it worth the money?

  4. says

When I worked at KFC in 1990, our location had a salad bar. At least that would be a salvation to me now, if I were stuck with them as my only food option. I don’t know how many have salad bars anymore.

When we were eating wheat my pot pie recipe contained less than ten ingredients. When we make grilled chicken it contains two- chicken and olive oil (four if you count salt and pepper). How in the world can they take a simple recipe and turn it into that and why???

    • Kim says

Oh, I would love for you to look at Panera bread. It really surprised me to see the ingredients in their salad dressings and soups. I kind of expected it to be a bit better because it’s kind of “upscale” fast food, but it’s not.

Panera Bread will be coming in July. I am a fan of the place so it should be interesting. I had a steak salad and clam chowder soup last time I was there… should be interesting!

    • says

That is a great question… why???

I have an answer…. MONEY. It’s all about money. Sure, it might taste good if you have no idea whats in it. They are making the product cheaper so they can make a bigger profit.

Technically you can’t call KFC, “Kentucky Fried Chicken” anymore…because they don’t use natural chickens…I heard they genetically alter the chickens so they have 4 wings, 2 heads..etc.. so they’re not real chickens. so they dropped the full name for fear of law suits and went just with the KFC part. or at least that’s what I heard thru the grapevine – I’ve never actually gone online and searched for a document that said this. I am officially banning all fast food – yucky.

when I was a teenager – my town had to shut down the taco bell because people were using the beans and meat to eliminate their bodily wastes into – and then serving it to customers. several people were hospitalized because of it. EW!! makes me wonder about the other chains. …. just food for thought. lol …

The ingredients in the chicken pot pie is almost a novel…and the KFC Chicken!! Come on that’s disturbing…

I’m not sure I agree with you. You vilify KFC, using things like their Chicken Pot Pie (which no one on the Paleo diet should even consider consuming-wheat, potatoes, other questionable ingredients) but for fast food, their grilled chicken is not that bad. If you Google the ingredients, for the small amount you’ll be ingesting, it’s not going to kill you. However with Panera, you write it off like it’s no big deal although I’m sure they’re just as bad and I believe it’s because you like Panera, and dislike KFC. It’s not in anyway fine to vilify one fast food chain for the same practices that another has that you’re perfectly fine with and advise people not to ‘stress’ over the ingredients and/or chemicals of the one.
This is something I cannot get behind. I hope that you start endorsing a point of view that takes everything into consideration the same and not as being colored by your feelings towards the corporation or company itself. Bias is something I cannot get behind, for any reason.

I appreciate your comment Amy. I do not like Panera Bread anymore than I like KFC. I will never suggest eating at Panera Bread. Never. But if someone else suggests it then I will know what to order. Due to your concern I will look over the ingredients of the chicken for panera bread and kfc. If my viewpoint changes then i will do a follow up post.

I rarely eat fast food but am doing these posts for 2 main reasons… Make people aware of the junk they are putting in their body when they eat fast food. And to tell people what the best options are when fast food is the only option.

Thanks again for your concern. I will look it over next week.

I liked to say as kfc employee of 4 years our chicken comes fresh. Unlike any other place u go to the chicken is already cooked and is frozen. Who wants that??? We bread our own chicken fresh and fry it or grill it fresh. Everyone is valued to there own opinions and everyone has there own way of eating.

  10. Cassie says

If you like kfc you should eat it if you don’t then you don’t have to go there and u can leave it at that instead of trying to get everyone else to stop eating there seriously do u not have anything better to do with your life ?
But as I am trying to say yes it’s ideal because we are different from taco bell McDonald’s and burger king ect because our chicken is freshly made and not frozen. I’d choose fresh over frozen any day . But as I said if you like kfc then enjoy it.
