Do you want to save money? Do you love quality food? Do you ever shop on Amazon? I always enjoy saving a dime here and there and I love quality food. I’d rather enjoy more grass-fed beef then have an iPhone. I want both but at this very moment I can only choose one. The iPhone will wait.
I have enjoyed thoroughly this approach since eating quality food will change my mood significantly in a positive direction. Having an iPhone could swing my mood in either direction.
I shop on Amazon for many reasons. Quality food, easy ordering process, 3% cash back with their credit card, subscribe and save for an additional 15% discount, free shipping and real customer reviews. One more thing…
It’s virtually impossible to beat Amazon’s price.
I love going to farmers market and buying local food. I also love coconut, olive oil, larabars, vinegars and chocolate which are food items I buy frequently from Amazon.
So what 10 foods do I always have on hand from Amazon?
Shredded Coconut – This is the single most cheapest food in my refrigerator and freezer. I add this to almost everything. Salads, eggs, smoothies and more. If you are on a tight budget then buy a 12 pack and eat daily. I used to buy a bag for $3.19 at Meijer. Its $1.68 per bag on Amazon when you subscribe and save.
Coconut Milk – We all know about coconut milk. Its great for smoothies, curries, over berries and is a key ingredient in many other recipes. I buy the Native Forest brand because it is BPA free. At Harvest Health I’ll pay $2.69 per can. I can buy a 12 pack on Amazon for about $1.76 per can. Keep in mind that Asian markets sell coconut milk for even cheaper.
Coconut Flakes – These are a perfect snack. Its dried pure coconut meat. I took these with me to Primal Con and the 7 of us in the shuttle on the way to Oxnard were all over them. It honestly tastes like fresh pure coconut. I mostly snack on these or will add them to an already blended smoothie for a nice crunch.
Coconut Water – Coconut water is the worlds greatest natural source of electrolytes. It may be pure sugar but it is incredibly healthy for you. It’s expensive so I do not drink it often. Nonetheless, you can not beat Amazon’s price since you pay for a 12 pack. My favorite brand is Amy & Brians Naturals by far. The “juice” contains coconut pulp! I love them in smoothies and also just enjoy drinking it out of the can or from a glass. I hear they make great cocktails too!
Coconut Oil – Due to the fact that it’s super high in saturated fat, Coconut Oil is the world’s greatest cooking oil. It is heat stable and thus can be exposed to high heat with out oxidizing. I personally do not notice the flavor when I cook with it but many claim they do. My favorite cooking fat is butter but I use coconut oil a lot too. Its also a great weight loss “tool” due to its medium chain fatty acid content. If I am not mistaken, coconut oil speeds up your metabolism. A lot of people love Tropical Traditions brand but I have grown to love Nutiva. It’s cheaper when you buy on Amazon.
Coconut Flour – This is the final coconut product that I buy on Amazon. I have only purchased this once in my life but am just about out of what I have. If you are a fan of baking but are avoiding grains then coconut flour seems to be the best alternative. It’s full of fiber and healthy fat. You can buy a 4 pack of Bob’s Red Mill brand on Amazon for super cheap.
Apple Cider Vinegar – This is great in water, salad dressings, smoothies, soups, stews, chilis and more. Yes, I literally enjoy it with any food. It has great detoxifying properties and can help heal your gut. I don’t do the water thing much but I do love to add it to other semi liquidly foods. It’s one of my favorite vinegars next to red wine vinegar. If you are willing to buy a gallon then you will save tons of money. It’s only $16.49 for the organic Bragg’s brand.
Cacao Powder – This is pure, raw chocolate in powder form. I love adding this to smoothies. It is great in baked goods or foods like chilis. Mark Sisson uses cacao powder as the “secret ingredient” in his Chili recipe in his first Primal Blueprint Cookbook.
Cacao Nibs – This is pure, raw chocolate in nib form. They are similar to chocolate chips. I prefer this over the powder in my primal smoothiesas it can add a nice crunch if you add it after blending. I have not tried it but I am sure nibs are easy to melt which can thus be used for awesome desserts. Frozen chocolate strawberries anyone?
Larabars – You have to buy a pack of 16 on Amazon but if you go in with 2-4 people then it becomes a great deal. I often purchase 4 flavors with 3 of my siblings and we then get 4 of each flavor. This allows us to have a variety while still saving money. It’s also great for me because I get about 24 points on my Amazon credit card which translates to $3 cash back.
I have written 2 posts on larabars before (here and here) and may do so again soon as I have changed my viewpoint for the second time. I am pro larabar. They are simply very convenient for traveling, awesome in smoothies and affordable.
Amazon Money Saving Tips
1) Subscribe and save whenever possible for an additional 15% off
2) Always spend $25 for free shipping unless you are an Amazon prime member like me
3) Sign up for an Amazon chase credit card and then buy everything for your friends and family. I often buy books for one of my sisters. I get $9 for every $100 I spend on Amazon for her. How? I get 3 points for every $1 I spend on Amazon. You can buy anything on Amazon with your points! And, guess what? The points NEVER expire. You could say that for every 7-10 books I buy for my friends and family members I get one book free for me. Pretty cool, don’t you think?
